Oy! Detroit School Begs for Toilet Papers, Light Bulbs

ClickonDetroit.com has reported that The Academy of the Americas has sent a letter to staff and parents asking for donations. The principal has asked for items such as toilet paper, paper towel rolls, trash bags and 60, 100 or 150-watt light bulbs “that are of the utmost importance for proper school functioning and most importantly for student health and safety.”

The school district in which the school belongs is currently facing a $400 million budget deficit.

According to the Detroit Public Schools website, The Academy of the Americas has a “new state of the art multi-media room/Library”.

A wheelchair-bound man wheeled into a Dallas 7-11. Armed with a knife and a baseball bat, he went straight for the cash register and smashed it until it opened. However, he must have had more important things to do. Instead of taking cash out of the register, he grabbed 10 boxes of condoms and an energy drink before rolling on out of there.

Now there’s a man with clearly-defined priorities in life!

A Class on How To Snare a Billionaire

I came across an article from UK’s The Sun titled “How To Snare a Billionaire”. It was incredulously preposterous. The GIF below is a screen capture of the article’s sidebar.

Moscow has a popular seduction school that teaches women in their 20′s and 30′s on how to get a man, preferably a rich one. Wear a short skirt and bend over a lot seems to be the main advice. I guess Elle from Legally Blonde wasn’t far off with her “bend and snap” routine!

The students are graded on their perfume, manicure, and hair. They role play. They strip down to their bras and thongs and sashay all over. They practice lapdancing to Shakira’s music.

Shockingly, majority of the women taking this course are beautiful, educated and hold decent jobs. What, I wonder, could drive such women to give up a weekend and pay good money to attend such a school? It wouldn’t be poverty. Greed perhaps? The desire for luxury and maybe fame? Maybe bragging rights for snaring a rich one? It is hard to say.

I suggest the next class they take is a crash course on Law, preferably pertaining to prenups, divorce, alimony and, just in case, child custody.

The telephone. Thank goodness for caller ID.
The mail. You’d rather open the Valpak envelope than the envelope from the gas company.
The colored slip from the post office. You’ve got (a registered) mail!
The long, long pause after the cashier swipes that piece of plastic. It’s like credit card roulette.
The knock on the door. Beware, they also peek through windows.
The piece of paper stuck to the front door. If colorful, it is probably just a flyer.
The hissing sound from the faucet. Don’t flush the toilet. Yet.
The utility company’s van. Right in front of the house.
The tow truck. Near the car.
The following day. It’s just the same thing all over again.
